Fears and Thrills

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that read, “Do one thing everyday that scares you. Eleanor Roosevelt.” I was on the back of our motorcycle when I read that quote. Be assured, riding a motorcycle scares me to death, but at the same time thrills me.
The scary part arrives out of fear. While riding I fear automobiles whose drivers run red lights, stop signs, and move toward our side of the road. I fear those drivers who are talking on their cell phones and are not paying attention to what is going on around them. Watching other cyclist pass by driving to fast and worst of all without helmets scares me.

What ifs also scare me. What if a deer runs out in front of us or that car behind us doesn’t stop and it hits us. What if the motorcycle’s tire blows out or what if my husband has a heart attack while riding the motorcycle like my friend was telling me her friend did. What if I am riding behind him when he has that heart attack?

Although all of those things scare me, the thrill of riding triumphs over all my fears. I am addicted to traveling our local countryside by motorcycle. I’ve never had the desire to ride solo. I love riding on the back of the cycle with my husband and I’m happy he is the one in control of the motorcycle. This affords me the opportunity to daydream, think, and a lot of time for sightseeing.
I love the courteous jester of the low wave cyclist give each other with their gloved hand held down to their sides. When we pass them, we know to look for the wave and offer one of our own to them. I enjoy watching the curiosity of the children whom we pass. I always offer a special wave to them and love to see their excitement. They make me feel like a celebrity.

Traveling through the Central Kentucky region has led to many discoveries. Most Central Kentuckians know about all of the more popular places such as Boonsboro, Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge, and the Horse Park. But, do they know about other areas rich in woodlands, creeks, streams, flowers, and waterfalls? Perched on my throne on my two-wheel chariot, I have glimpsed many glorious sights such as these.

Most people do not have the opportunity to smell, feel and hear Kentucky. Oh how I love the fresh air blowing gently through my helmet slapping my face with melodious sounds and glorious odors. The smell of just mown grass, blooming flowers, and even the foul smells rising from farms with a variety of animals all help bring a peaceful contentment to me. Memories of my life growing up on the farm tenderly attack me.

Some of the Madison County scenery we have been fortunate enough to view is things such as the creek off Barnes Mill Road with its gorgeous waterfall, the Reservoir at Red Lick, The Pinnacle in Berea and the mountain scene enfolding before us while traveling Big Hill as well as the beautiful lake at Owsley Fork surrounded by mountain peaks. We enjoy riding to the Valley View area and watching the ferry crossing the Kentucky River.

We also have discovered many beautiful places in other areas surrounding Madison County. In Bourbon County, there is a wall built of stone laid by hand many years ago. The wall extends for miles, surrounding beautiful farmland. The wildflowers growing on the countryside of Montgomery County were breathtaking. In Garrard County, we saw an endless field of buttercups growing wild.
Recently while riding through Lincoln County, we discovered the Cedar Creek Recreational Area. Sitting on a bench, I watched as the water slapped against the sand covered beach. Four geese honked as they floated on the lake. Several boats skimmed across the waves. All along, I could hear the roar of automobiles in the distance and an airplane as it flew overhead.
The noise did nothing to break the peaceful contentment lingering over the area. This was a beautiful place to come to sit and contemplate.

Evidence of previous visitor’s was strewn across the beach. Cigarette butts, broken bottles, plastic soft drink tops, and various sorts of garbage littered my getaway.
I tried hard to ignore the ugliness and focused my attention on the beauty surrounding me. Massive Oaks, remarkable maple and gangling locust trees stood tall around the lake, not to mention the many spiky cedars.
Goldenrods, daisies and many other wildflowers that I could not identify danced in the wake of the breeze. This place was a nice find.

If you are looking for something to do locally, hop in your automobile and ride around the countryside. You never know what you might discover. If you are brave enough, try riding a motorcycle. Discovering your world on a motorcycle is very exciting, besides, with the price of gasoline rising daily, you might be surprised how far a tank of gas will take you. A word or two of caution though, stay on your side of the road, watch what you are doing, be careful. Don’t forget to wave.

Things to Remember While Using Helmets

Motorcycle helmets are the most important gear for any biker, however to ensure a perfect buy, you have to consider a few tips while choosing motorcycle helmets.

Always try on the new helmets before riding on the road to make sure that you are comfortable with the new protective gear. Check out for symmetry and make sure that the helmet rests just above the brows without hampering your vision. It should be too tight that it might leave red marks once you take off the helmet.

Once you have purchased your helmet, try to store it in a level place to avoid the risk of getting it knocked off to the ground, which could spoil the helmets and could leave ugly dents and scratch marks on your pricey gear

Full face helmets are recommended for regular bike riders as these would ensure absolute protection from weather blues and dust particles that could cause allergy to eyes and skin.

Study and follow motorcycle helmet safety standards and it is better not go for a cheap brand to save a few penny as it cannot guarantee safety and protection to the wearer in the event of an accident. Always choose certified and approved helmets, so that you will remain eligible for insurance coverage too. Insurance companies can refuse accident coverage if the helmet used is not in compliance with the safety standards.

Before purchasing helmets, double check that these have undergone anti-scratch and anti-fog treatment. The visor should not come in contact with the outer shell of the helmet to keep it scratch free.

Choose a helmet that is not very heavy for your head as it could give you blurred vision and head and neck pain on prolonged use; whereas very light helmets might fall short of ensuring adequate protection.

The chinstrap should not be too long or short as it could hamper with the right fitting of the helmet. If it is too short, it will give you pain whereas long straps that need to be tucked away will spoil the aesthetic appeal of your helmet.

Choose an aerodynamic helmet with adequate vents to make it less noisy and comfortable. Poor ventilation systems could result in noisy helmets. The helmets loosen up over time, so make sure to pick up a model that gives you good fit. Last but not the least, make sure to comply the helmet law if your state to be a law abiding citizen.

How to Save Time Washing Motorcycles

Alright, I figured we would start with something simple that many people seem to struggle with in dealing with their two wheeled machines. The topic today is how to save time washing motorcycles. I personally receive compliments all the time on how great my motorcycles look when I’m at events or just out riding. Everyone always says, “It must take you hours to clean your motorcycle”. I laugh and say actually it only took about a half hour. No one ever believes it because they are use to spending most of their time spending pain staking hours cleaning their motorcycle to obtain an awesome finished product.

The truth is it will always take time and there are many products available that will help your motorcycle look good, although no product saves you time. Washing is basic, you just need to use a light detergent soap that can be found in any automotive section of a department store and apply that soap with a soft rag or special soap applicator. Make sure to wash small sections and rinse frequently out of direct sun light, preferably in the shade or in a garage. You don’t want to give the soap time to dry on your motorcycle since it leaves an ugly white residue on your chrome and paint.

Once you have completed the wash and rinse you are almost done. Here is the hard part, drying your motorcycle. Most people are firm believers that chamois are the way to go, I use to be until I found a better method that leaves an awesome finished result with no spots or water lingering in cracks and crevasses. Drying with a chamois takes forever and most of the time you will have water trapped in areas that you can’t get to and it eventually drips or runs on your chrome and paint leaving streaks. How upsetting is that after you spent quality time washing and drying and there are still water spots and streaks all over your finished work!

It’s really no secret and the way around water spots and streaks is using the right tools for the job. Using the right tools saves time, money, and unneeded aggravation. Years ago someone told me about using a leaf blower on my motorcycle and I thought they were insane until I got tired of wasting an hour or more drying everything on my motorcycle and tried using a leaf blower. I have to say it cut my time down in 1/3 with outstanding results. I have to admit that I still had to go around and wipe a little here and there with a chamois but the time savings was significant and the results were spectacular. Eventually I found another tool that works even better and faster with results that are remarkable. What I found was the Air Force Blaster Motorcycle Dryer. There are three different models of the Air Force Blaster; the 1.3 HP, 4 HP, 8 HP. Each of these models does an outstanding job turning the normal hour or better choir into 10 minutes or less removing every molecule of water off your motorcycle. There is no using a chamois when using the Air Force Blaster, just turn it on and let it do all the drying for you!

This tool may seem like an investment to you and you are right, it’s an investment to save time and effort to get superior results in the final look of your motorcycle. Any good motorcycle dealership has an Air Force Blaster model in their shop for their employees to use when the work is complete on a customer’s motorcycle and wash time begins. Why do you ask? The reason is simple, dealerships are in the business to make money while they also provide great service and products. If they want a customer to return with their motorcycle they are going to give it back to their customer in better condition than what it came in as. Washing only makes sense, although it is very time consuming and the customer really doesn’t pay for this service. Dealerships found the tool that saves their employees significant time and them a huge amount of money on wages, that right the Air Force Blaster! Air Force Blaster enables a dealership’s employees to wash 8-10 motorcycle in the time it use to take washing one motorcycle the old fashion way. The money they spent buying an Air Force Blaster provided an immediate return with phenomenal results.

I encourage you to try the Air Force Blaster out, any model will provide outstanding results with an immediate return on your investment. Time is money and you can never put a dollar amount on the time taken away from riding and spent on cleaning. Thanks for reading and please post comments, we always enjoy hearing feedback on our blogs and products.

Your Best Lambskin Leather Wear

Are you one of those slightly unfortunate people living in a geographic location close to the poles? If so then you are one of those who get extremely pleased on those days of the year when there is just about a bit of sun heat around, and you spend the rest of the year thinking how to keep yourself warm yet sexy.

The biggest problem which people like you face, if they are fashion- conscious, is with their dress. In the intense cold they don’t have much of a choice when it comes to dressing. However all is not that gloomy. If you are fashion conscious and like millions of the people around want to look good then you would soon turn your warm clothes into a style statement. You see nobody made a rule that warm clothes cannot be stylist and sexy.

Talking about warm clothes the first thing which comes to anybody’s mind is leather. If you are used to wearing lambskin leather then there is nothing more left for us to tell you. However if you are unaccustomed to wearing this fine category of clothing then there is much that you have lost on. Leather is very warm and soft. It is also amazingly sexy. Yes. Leather wear is very sexy. It doesn’t matter how your shape is, when you wear leather your body automatically get a very firm and curvy shape. There is an accentuation which your body gets under leather. Added to that leather is shiny. This means that you will not look dull no matter how colorless the rest of your dresses are.

If you are having genuine leather garments then there is need for you to take care of it. Followings are few ways of doing so.

o Polish: yes, this is the most important part you need to religiously do in order to keep your leather wear in good shape. This is what most people don’t do. But you must understand that if you don’t polish your leather it will not get any moisture and lose its shine very soon!!

o Watch out: when buying the polish make sure that you are not taking a polish which has mineral or petroleum in it and above all avoid polishes with coloring agents. Polishes are important for your leather but you must choose that right one else you will only be left with patchy stains of those expensive leather wears. Also try to avoid heavy and greasy polishes since they too are not good for your leather wear.

o No wax and silicon please: this is another thing which you will have to stay away from if you want keep that leather wear of yours in good shape. Animal fats such as mink oil etc. can be used but they have their own disadvantage. What is that? Well these oils tend to clog the pores of the leather and not just that, they also make the color of the leather a lot darker. So you will find yourself flaunting new colors of the same dress everyday!!

o Stay away from moisture: like all the above mentioned things, moisture too is not good for your leather wear. So better stay away from snow and rain. And if you by chance get them on your leather then make immediate efforts to dry the dress completely unless you want ugly patches on your expensive lovely leather wear!!

Now you are quite educated about taking care of leather wear. So what are you waiting for? Better make up for the neglect you have subjected your leather wear to for all these years.
